MDF

Medium Density Fiberboard has been one of the most rapidly growing composite board products to enter the world market in recent years. 

MDF is manufactured by refining woodchips and sawdust down to a microscopic level and then bonding these fibers together with a resin. The raw material used in manufacturing MDF can be 100% softwoods, 100% hardwoods, or a mixture. 

The surface of MDF is flat, smooth, uniform, dense, and free of knots and grain patterns, all of which make finishing operations easier and consistent. 

MDF mouldings are an economical way of bringing larger, more elegant mouldings into your home. The wider the profile, the higher the percentage savings over traditional wood mouldings. 

The standard, conventional way of installing solid mouldings can be used to install MDF mouldings. The procedure for covering nail holes is also the same. 

Paint quality varies by manufacturer. As the quality varies, so does the drying time. To achieve the best results, it is recommended that the specifications provided by the manufacturer be followed.

- sanded and laminated MDF/HDF;

- with one-side and two-side lamination.

Standard density  760 - 780 kg/m3.

Custom produced density -  up to 900 kg/m3.

Minimum consignment – 1 Eurotruck.

Our company has a developed infrastructure - own railways with access to the railway station. Product delivery can be carried out to any place in Ukraine by railway or truck.
 
Packaging and Marking
MDF boards are packed into stacks (fom the bottom – protection board, from the top – cardboard sheet), strapped with tight plastis tape. Every stack is marked with a tag.
 
Packaging Scheme   

1. The stack is put on to the protection board and wooden bars according to the size of the board (2800х2070 mm);
2. The top of the stack is covered with cardboard sheet (2800х2070 mm);
3. The stack is strapped with four rings of plastic tape;
4. Maximum stack weight is 170 kg.

Types of transportation:

  • trucks;
  • box cars (covered waggons).


Recommendations on MDF Stacking and Storing

-  the storehouse should be properly ventilated, relative humidity should be 45-75% under temperature 10-40°C.Wet floor snould be covered with polyethylene film to prevent water penetration into MDF board;
- to cover the stacks from the top and bottom with substrates to avoid weather influence during transportation or long storing;
- to cover edges of the boards to prevent moisture and heat influence;
- to place boards horizontally, while vertically stored to comply with strictly vertical position and stability;
- to stack boards aligned with each other to avoid edge and corners damage;
- to store boards in stacks not higher than 4.5 m and with spacers in between;
- to place the bottom stack on the plain surface on to wooden bars or pallet;  
- to separate stacks with dry wood bars of the same thickness (width and thickness of the bars should be not more than 80 mm; thickness tolerance of the bars used for one stack should be not more than 5 mm;
- to place the bars with intervals of 600 mm, there should be at least three bars for one stack, the distance between the edge bar and the stack edge should not exceed 200 mm;
- all wooden bars in stack should be aligned vertically.

Advantages of MDF

MDF has the following advantages over alternative materials:

PRICE

- The cost of MDF is 60-70% lower than the cost of the natural wood.

PHYSICAL-MECHANICAL PROPERTIES

- in spite of the lower cost, MDF surpasses natural wood with physical-mechanical properties, as MDF is free of internal defects of the natural wood such as knots, cracks, etc. The hardness of MDF is higher than any type of the natural wood.

- MDF is not warping, has higher density and does not possess "polythickness".

- MDF is notable for the even distribution of its properties along the whole board.

- The strength of MDF board is 1,8-2 times higher than particle board. The strength of MDF is provided not only by the use of the synthetic resins, but also by the binding agents in fibrous interaction (lignin).

- MDF swelling factor is several times lower as compared with particle board.

- MDF boards have minimum difference in thickness and size.

- MDF does not lose its form under drastic temperature drop.

- MDF does not crumble.

MOISTURE RESISTANCE, STABILITY TO TEMPERATURE FLUCTUATIONS

- Because of its high moisture resistance MDF is widely used for kitchen and bathroom furniture. Under the influence of steam the furniture made of MDF does not warp.

HIGH LEVEL OF THERMAL INSULATING PROPERTIES

- For thermal insulating properties 12 mm MDF boards are equal to the brick wall of 150 mm and reinforced concrete panel of 260 mm of thickness.

HIGH LEVEL OF ACOUSTIC INSULATION

- MDF boards have high level of acoustic insulation.

MANUFACTURABILITY, WHICH WIDENS THE SPACE TO IMPLEMENT DESIGNERS' DECISIONS

- MDF is easily laminated and veneered thanks to its ideal surface as opposed to particle board.

- MDF is easily and economically painted thanks to its ideal plane surface, which absorbs less paint as opposed to particle board.

- MDF could be used for the surface embossment, which is impossible with particle board.

- MDF could be used for edge, angle and surface milling, which is impossible with particle board. This allows to give MDF parts different shape and form and widens the possibilities of their usage.

- MDF could be used for bended surfaces, which is impossible with particle board. MDF workpiece bending technology resembles the one for natural wood and plywood.

- thanks to its higher hardness, MDF holds the furniture fittings much better than particle board.

- MDF is irreplaceable, when high density is needed for the fastening of hinged elements.

ECOLOGICAL COMPATIBILITY

- in spite of its low price, MDF is close to the natural wood on its ecological properties.

- MDF possesses higher ecological compatibility against particle board due to low emission of formaldehyde. So MDF is recommended to use for the production of kitchen and baby furniture.

HYGIENE

- MDF is resistant to different fungi and germs, which makes MDF hygienic and safe material for everyday life.

FIRE SAFETY

- MDF is hardly inflammable material.
